Nice places to visit in the area



  • The Soustons lake, just nearby, one of the largest lakes in France. Walks around the lake, pedal boats, paddleboarding, fishing, etc.
  • The Courant d'Huchet, nicknamed the Landes' Amazon: an exceptional nature reserve 8 km away
  • Visit Hossegor, Seignosse, Capbreton just 15 minutes away and then Bayonne, Biarritz, and Saint-Jean-de-Luz (40 min)
  • Spend a day exploring the villages of the Basque Country, discover an exceptional panorama with the little train of La Rhune and then a tour in Spain to taste the "tapas"
  • The Dune of Pyla, a huge sand dune at the entrance of the Arcachon Bay (1h15 north of Messanges)

  • "The Marquèze Ecomuseum, discover the Landes of yesteryear through the reconstitution of a Landais village from the 19th century. To get there, you will even take a hundred-year-old train
  • The Labeyrie Foie Gras Pavilion in Saint Geours de Maremne
  • The Ham Museum in Bayonne
  • The Museum of the Sea in Capbreton and Biarritz
  • The Chocolate Museum in Bayonne

Traditions



  • The Ferias of Dax, Bayonne, and Soustons, as well as the Madeleine Festival of Mont de Marsan. A tradition of the Southwest with music and the famous Bandas bands
  • The Sardinades of Messanges, where you can taste sardines cooked over a wood fire, all while enjoying music. A great moment of conviviality!
  • The Courses Landaises: a magnificent traditional spectacle of perilous acrobatics without any harm to the animal, to be seen by the whole family in the arenas.
  • Basque Pelote and Landais échassiers (stilt walkers). Enjoy the show in Vieux Boucau, Soustons, or Moliets (5 minutes away)

Gastronomy



There are indeed many excellent restaurants in the area:
Gourmet restaurants , seafood restaurants, and more. You'll be spoiled for choice!

You can visit foie gras and asparagus producers where you'll delight in duck in all its forms: breast, strips, etc.
It's also the land of the wood pigeon, the Landes platter, mussels, our famous pastry called Pastis Landais , and so much more.

At local markets , you'll meet small-scale producers from the region.
And why not a tasting and discovery of Landes wines at the Bergerie des Vignerons Landais on the outskirts of Messanges.
